I was very honored to be a featured speaker at TEDxYearling Road tonight! But I had to do something very uncomfortable first. I had to be vulnerable. I had to let down my walls and let people in. I had to show myself in a way that exposed some of my character flaws. This could be dangerous. You know, like the more people know about you, the more they can use against you. This is a legitimate fear that many of us have about living out our passion and letting it drive our actions. We are afraid of what people think. Or we are afraid that people will judge us!
I can tell you that the exact opposite happened. I spoke my truth...and I inspired many! After the speech, I had a line of people coming to me and offering their own stories. Many of them could identify with how I grew up. Others could identify with my family dynamic. Still others wanted to find that "silver lining" that I found through being authentic and unapologetic.
When you are truly living your passion and purpose, people will be drawn to you! They will find courage in your example and want to be a part of your movement. But first, you have to get out of your own way!
Don't let fear of what might happen, keep you from your future! Run towards your destiny and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how awesome the journey will be!
